We’ve been busy optimizing FastCall’s search engine even more, and are thrilled with what we’ve been able to accomplish for this update. Yes, it just keeps getting faster!
In addition, we made a minor change to the way that scrolling is handled during a search so that it doesn’t look like contacts are “disappearing.” (Of course, the contacts weren’t really disappearing, but some users thought they were because of the scrolling behavior.) This has all been “resolved” in the latest update.
To get the update, just click Check for Updates in iTunes.
It’s finally here! A faster FastCall. Over 200% faster, actually (on average). We’re very excited about this update, as it is (obviously) much faster than 1.1. It was submitted to Apple yesterday and should be available within the next several days.
The search engine code has been heavily revamped to improve performance, and a new Quick Search feature has been added. However if you want a more advanced search (beyond first name, last name, and company), just go to “Settings”, and change the search type to Advanced Search. It may take just a little longer but Advanced Search will find everything else that you may be looking for.
We’ve also added support for the pause character (,) in phone numbers (a popular request).
Many of these updates are the result of customer requests, and we are interested in hearing from you as well! Ideas for FastCall can always be sent to us here. Or, if you’re more interested in a discussion, head on over to the forum. We look forward to hearing from you!
FastCall for the iPhone/iPod Touch is now available! We couldn’t be more excited. Click here to get FastCall at the iTunes store. And, we’ve already made several major improvements during the first two days since FastCall’s release. The update (v1.1) has already been submitted to Apple, and will be available very soon as a free update.
This update adds comprehensive support for international characters. Just tap on the character closest to the one you are trying to find. For example, if you are looking for a ‘ü’, just tap the ‘tuv’ key and FastCall will find exactly what you are looking for. We’re also working on another update that will include significant performance improvements for very large databases.
Even more is just around the corner for our Mac app RiftVault! Ever since we released RiftVault we’ve actually had an interesting problem. We did not anticipate that it would be confused with FileVault, the encryption system that’s built into Mac OS X. Because of this, we’ve decided to rename RiftVault. So, what’s the new name? Our favorite (and the one we’ve selected) is AllSecure. We also have an amazing new icon to go with it. We’ll post more about AllSecure as we get closer to the release. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy FastCall - it should help you save a lot of time!
We finally have a blog! Everyone at EdgeRift is thrilled about being able to tell you more about what we’re doing here. We’ll talk about what it’s like to develop great software, give you sneak peeks at what’s coming, and let you know whenever we need your help with something we’re working on (usually with beta testing and feedback). Of course, no good blog would be complete without some general thoughts and pondering, so from time to time, we’ll comment on what’s happening in the software industry. Feel free to post comments to the blog or forum. We’d love to hear from you.
But that’s not all that’s big news for us. Last week, we submitted our first iPhone/iPod touch app, FastCall, to the App Store. If you use your iPhone to make phone calls or iPod touch to communicate (look up contacts, send e-mails, etc.), FastCall is one application you won’t want to pass up. You can find out more at the FastCall product page. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s available for download on the App Store.
